A Sweet New Year!

Shana Tova from 4wdesign

In time for Rosh Hashana – the Jewish new year, a new design for a Rosh Hashana greeting card. Nothing like apples, honey, and a shofar blast to start the new year! Sweet nourishment, and then the shofar — calling for awakening, reflection, and spiritual regeneration.

Sukkot and Simchat Torah at Kol Shofar
A snippet from Kol Shofar‘s website last week, as we were winding up the high holiday season with Sukkot and Simchat Torah. With the goal on this home page snippet to convey the joy of the season, showing a sukkah (thanks Schiffs!), band photo for the Red Hot Chachkas – a great local klezmer band – and my apples and honey illustration from one of my Rosh Hashanah greeting cards.  And below that, the new synagogue program guide, uploaded onto Bluetoad – this is a great service, easy to work with, which takes multi-page PDF’s and allows easy access to these documents.

I created these graphics and more for this medical app for CHEP – Canadian Hypertension Education Program. These are guidelines to help primary care providers as well as people with hypertension. And of course there’s preventative information as well.

While arguably not the most scintillating app out there, according to at least one doctor I spoke with, these guidelines save lives. It doesn’t really get any more fulfilling than that.

For more info, see the Canadian Hypertension website, and www.hypertension.ca/chep-recommendations for the guidelines, or even better, download the CHEP app on your iphone or ipad!

draidls, caneidls, and latkes, oh my!

Time for a Chanukah post – the holiday starts tonight! Better get cracking on a new design. Ideas, anyone? Latke-land? Light in the darkness? Draidl draidl draidl? Stay tuned. In the meantime, I’ll post this special Chanukah zebra that a friend had forwarded to me.

And here we go: my Grandmother’s Latke recipe, on my Chanukah latke cards.

…. Happy Chanukah!

the sound of the shofar – le’shona tova

May the blast of the shofar bring with it a calling to consciousness, and a sense of cleansing, purifying, cleaning out – a readiness to move forward into the fresh new year.

Shana – Year – is related to the Hebrew word for change.
Chodesh – the word for month – is related to the Hebrew word chadash, new.

Even the word shniya, second, is related to shana, year, and change. We have the opportunity for change with each year, with each month, and even with each second.
May the blast of the shofar bring positive change.

Wishing everyone a sweet new year,

Ellen Tobe

Why print on one side if you can print on both?

PSPrint does a great job, and doesn’t charge a whole lot. And now I have this snazzy note-taking side for my cards, which I’ve noticed people are particularly drawn to, no pun intended.
